John Brown Lake adopted 17 September 1984 on 92F/11, as submitted by Ruth Masters, Comox District Mountaineering Club.

Named by Ruth Masters, Comox District Mountaineering Club, after John Brown, early prospector and one of the first people to explore Forbidden Plateau in the 1920's; he worked in the Cumberland coal mines for many years, beginning c1898, and had a cabin on Circle Lake. Over the years he constructed numerous trails on the Plateau. Died in the 1960s.
