Named by Ruth Masters, Comox District Mountaineering Club, after John Brown, early prospector and one of the first people to explore Forbidden Plateau in the 1920's; he worked in the Cumberland coal mines for many years, beginning c1898, and had a cabin on Circle Lake. Over the years he constructed numerous trails on the Plateau. Died in the 1960s.
