Above Cariboo Lake, this was known as Swamp River; below Cariboo Lake this river was known as North Fork Quesnel River, as labelled on Trutch's 1871 map of BC, and on Bowman's 1887 map of the Cariboo Mining District, and on BC map 3G, 1914 et seq, and on BC map 1G, 1916.
