Named after a pioneering family; descendants still residing in the Chilliwack area. Victoria Times 17 July 1940 carried the following notice: "William Harvey Chadsey, 73-year old BC pioneer, died in hospital [at Chilliwack] last night. Born at Sumas, BC, 27 Februrary 1867, he was the 3rd of 4 pioneer brothers who farmed in the Sumas Prairie district in the latter part of the last century. He is survived by 2 sisters and a brother, Lockhart, all of the Chilliwack district." The following crown grants were registered: Chester Chadsey Lot 85, 10 October 1862; George Chadswy Lot 87, 3 April 1866; James Chadsey Lot 292, 9 February 1870 and Lot 84, 10 June 1872; William Chadsey Lot 88, 16 March 1874 (all Group 2, New Westminster District, located just east of Sumas River).
