Named by members of Alpine Club of Canada's 1982 camp, continuing the Elizabethan Era theme of naming and in association with nearby Madrigal Mountain - "...the Madrigal...was a song form that flourished during the reign of Elizabeth I...[and] the first great collection of madrigals was entitled 'The Triumphs of Oriana' - Oriana being the codename for Elizabeth..."
