Refuge Cove (Post Office & Steamer Landing) adopted 6 April 1950 on 92 NW, as labelled on BC map 2C, 1929, and as identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Form of name identified as Refuge Cove (settlement) in the 1966 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Refuge Cove (locality) 31 May 1982 on 92 K/2. So-named because of the "safe harbour" here, in turn named on Admiralty charts from 1860 or earlier.
