"...named by Captain Pender during the 1866 survey. That same year an island in Nanoose Bay off the east coast of Vancouver Island also received the name of Maude, resulting in some confusion over the years. In 1945 the Hydrographic Service suggested the Maude Island of Skidegate inlet be renamed "Recover Island" after the HBC brig of that name. Surprisingly the request was denied. Maude Island of Skidegate Inlet remained unchanged. The old Haida name for the island was Ha'ina.....
