Origin Notes and History:

Barrière Mountains adopted 11 August 1921 for Geological Survey Publication # 1945 (Summary Report 1921) as labelled on G.M. Dawson's 1898 map, Shuswap. Spelled "Barriere Mountains (without the accent) in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Form of name changed to Barrière Mountain (singular) 3 March 1955 on 92P.

Named in association with the Barrière River, in turn identified by G.M. Dawson thus "...the Barrière River, as its name imports, is sometimes crossed with difficulty in the spring." (Geological Survey Summary Report 1877-78).
