In association with Kitimat River and Kitimat Village, in turn derived from the Tsimsean name for the people who live at the head of this arm - the Gitamaat, "people of the snow." The Kitimat/Kitamaat call themselves Haisla, "dwellers downriver." See Kitimat River.
