Origin Notes and History:
Adopted 31 March 1924 on 94D/15 as listed in 1915 and 1924 Gazetteers and as labeled on Reference Map 1H "B.C., Northern" (1917). May have previously been labeled as Thudade or Thutage Lake (maps/dates not cited). In lieu of original paperwork this name was reconfirmed 12 January 1939. The lake is described by Frank Swannell (B.C.L.S.) in 1931-32 survey report.

"Thutade" is recorded as being an anglicization of an Indigenous word meaning "long narrow lake." According to Spatsizi and Tatlatui Wilderness Parks, it it is pronounced "Too-ta-dy" (p. 153)
