"Named c1860 by Captain Richards, RN, after Commander William Alfred Rumbulow Pearse, RN, commanding HMS Alert on this station 1858-61. Entered the navy 1832; lieutenant 1841; commander 1855; captain 1862; rear admiral, retired, 1876; died 1890." Also Pearse Islands at north entrance to Johnstone Strait.
