Named in 1931 by Tom Fyles et al, first ascent party, "...Tricouni Mountain was the name suggested for the peak, as from the distance it had the appearance of three cones..." (article & photograph by Tom Fyles, Canadian Alpine Journal vol XX, 1931, p.63). Note the subsequent slight misinterpretation: "...named by first ascent party because of its resemblance to a 3-pointed tricouni boot nail..." (February 1967 letter from D. Culbert, author of Climbers Guide to the Coastal Ranges of British Columbia, file P.1.51).
