Named in 1916 by interprovincial boundary surveyors "after Queen Elizabeth of Belgium." [note that Elisabeth is the correct spelling of her given name.] Elisabeth of Bavaria was Queen of the Belgians from 1909 to 1934, as the spouse of King Albert I of Belgium.
