Origin Notes and History:
Adopted 13 March 1947 on 93/SW, as a well-established name. Also Puntzi Creek. The name "Puntzi" is an anglicization of "Bendziny". Name changed 11 March 2019 to Bendziny on 93C/01 as recommended by the Tŝilhqot'in National Government and supported by the Cariboo Regional District, BC Parks, and Recreation Sites and Trails.

"Puntzee" is a Carrier Indian word meaning "small lake" as reported by Lieutenant H.S. Palmer of the Royal Engineers, who visited the lake in 1862.
