Labelled "Deadman's Creek" on BC map 4G, 1914. "Murder Creek (not Deadman's Creek)" identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer. Notations on the original BC name card indicate that the name Body Creek was recommended as a way to retain the signficance of the original name while avoiding confusion with numerous other "Deadman" features. Significance not cited.

"Deadman Creek sounds much better than Murder Creek and would be much more popular. If you want to make it better still, call it Hilton Creek after one of the two prospectors, Hilton and Kemp, who were alleged to have been done to death there. Hilton's remains are buried on the crest of the hill at the north side of the road overlooking the creek." (12 May 1924 correspondence from B.G. Hamilton, Invermere, quoted in July 1967 letter from BC Geographic Division to Ottawa, file I.1.62).
