Origin Notes and History:

Hoskyn Inlet adopted 9 September 1924 on C.321, as labelled on British Admiralty Chart 580, 1964 et seq. Form of name changed to Hoskyn Channel 6 January 1949 on C.3521, as recommended by Hydrographic Service.

Named in 1864 by Captain Pender, RN, after Richard Hoskyn, RN, a surveying officer. Master 1840. On the books of HMS Fisgard, guardship, Woolwich, for surveying duties 1853-1856. Staff commander 1863. Appointed chief draughtsman, Hydrographic department of the Admiralty 1864. Superintendent of charts 1865. Captain, retired 1867. Died 1873.
