Origin Notes and History:
Secretary Islands adopted 26 June 1911, as labelled on British Admiralty Chart 579, 1860 et seq. Note that on BC Lands map "Southern Districts of Vancouver Island", 1892, the northern island is labelled Secretary Island (singular) and the southern island is unnamed.

Named in 1859 by Captain Richards, RN, on account of their proximity to Southey Point, in turn after J.L. Southey, RN, secretary to Rear Admiral Baynes, commander-in-chief of the Pacific station, 1857-60.
