Mr. Wood, who first visited the Forbidden Plateau area in 1925, was often accompanied on his early explorations by various Courtenay men, including William (Bill) Douglas. Douglas "...was one of the first Courtenay Aldermen to visit the area, and he was extremely active and energetic in pioneering the Plateau. He was with me when we first discovered the lake." (February 1935 letter from C.S.Wood, file F.2.34) Name rejected. "Kwadha" suggested in 1936 by Geographic Board, meaning "to sit" (as taken from Comparative Vocabularies of the Indian Tribes of British Columbia, by Tolmie, W.F. & Dawson, G.M; Geological & Natural History Survey of Canada, 1884) but that name was objected to by Comox-Courtenay Board of Trade. The Board of Trade eventually re-submitted the name Douglas, on the basis that former Alderman Douglas was the first to introduce trout fry to this lake.
