"Alvin (Post Office)....north end of Pitt Lake" identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer; name confirmed 12 December 1939 on 92/SE. Altered application 4 June 1959 to current location about 4 miles above head of Pitt Lake. Form of name changed to Alvin (locality) 15 December 1982 on 92 G/10.

Alvin Post Office opened 1 October 1915 on L3174, G.S. Ward first postmaster; closed 31 March 1955; re-opened 8 December 1955 located 4 miles upriver on L2573.
