Dempster Creek adopted 3 May 1951 on 92G; not "Copper Creek" as labelled on BC map 5B, 1929, and as identified in the 1930 BC Gazetteer.

Changed to avoid confusion with numerous other "Copper" creeks. Renamed to remember RCAF Flying Officer John McBride Dempster DFM, J17206, from Vancouver; serving as Air Gunner with 617 (RAF) Squadron when he died 13 February 1944, age 20 (circumstances not cited). Buried at Coningsby Cemetery, Lincolnshire, UK; row 64, grave 1254.
