"Named in 1791 by Lieut. Eliza after Don Manuel Antonio Flores, Knight of the Order of Calatrava, 51st Viceroy of Mexico, 1787-1789, .....he despatched early in 1789 the expedition under the command of Lieut. Estevan Jose Martinez from San Blas to Nootka, which led to the dispute between Great Britain and Spain...."
