Adopted 17 July 1962 on 82K/7, as well-established in the mountaineering community, and as labelled on 1911 map "Portion of the Watersheds of Toby & Horsethief Creeks" by G.D. Emerson & E.W.Harden (published in Canadian Alpine Journal, vol 1V, 1912, opp/p.98).

Named in association with Jumbo Peak [sic] and Jumbo Fork of Toby Creek (since re-named Jumbo Creek), in turn referring to the Jumbo Mineral Claim, Crown Granted in 1892 according to BC Mines Annual Report, 1896.
