Had been identified as Ardis Creek on Water Rights file 0113523 and on BC Reference Map 8 (dates not cited), referring to early settler Charles Ardis Dempsey who had pre-empted L1886S at the head of this creek, however residents never used that name. 1952 field check identified "Jolly Creek" as the entrenched local name, after another early settler "Jolly" Jack Thornton.
