Adopted 28 January 1976 on 93A as an established name, used by Clearwater valley residents for several years; directional signpost on the trail to the waterfall uses this name.

The river drops 20 feet here. Named to remember Jim Bailey, an engineer in the Clearwater Valley in the post-WW II years, who drowned in Clearwater River (at this place ??) in 1952. (February 1975 letter, file B.1.37)
