A.C. Selwyn mentioned "river...supposed to be that leading to Pine Pass..." (Geological Survey Report 1875-76, p.39), however, Selwyn did not get to Pine Pass and this area is blank on his 1875 map "Quesnel Mouth....to Peace River" which accompanies the report. The lake is identified in George Dawson's sketch of "Summit Lake (Pine Pass)" opposite p.36B in Geological Survey Report 1879-80; on the following page the lake is described as "Azouzetta or Summit Lake" then "Azouzetta Lake". Father Morice's 1907 map of Northern British Columbia labels this "Pollen Lake" and identifies the adjacent trail "Somerset & Pollens Route" (from Fort McLeod to Hudson's Hope). Labelled "Azzuzetta (Summit) Lake on BC map 1H, 1917. BC name card identifies "Azzouzetta" as yet another spelling variation (map or document not cited). Origin/significance not known
